Fran Gormley is a New York City based photographer.
She was born in New York City and raised in New Jersey where she spent a significant portion of her childhood on welfare. Determined to break the poverty cycle, Fran worked hard to win scholarships and grants and graduated summa cum laude from Fairleigh Dickinson University and received her Masters in Social Psychology from Rutgers. After a successful career in advertising, she established and sold a brand consulting firm in 2000. Fran was then free to pursue her first love.
In 2006, Gormley did her first aerial photography shoot in the Camargue and since then has been fascinated with the unusual perspective an aerial vantage point provides.
Gormley is particularly interested in exploring photography’s shifting relationship to painting and sculpture. Her focus is on capturing the dreamlike point at which reality becomes abstraction. Gormley’s one-of-a-kind large-scale photographs immortalize the hidden beauty in otherworldly landscapes from her unique perspective thousands of feet above the earth.
Her work provides intimate glimpses of the earth’s palette in Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Kazakhstan, and Iceland.
