Chase Edwards Gallery presents a special exhibition curated jointly with renowned Cavalier Galleries of New York, Greenwich, Nantucket and Palm Beach, bringing you the work of important American sculptor Jim Rennert along with the innovative oil paintings of William Nelson.
William Nelson graduated from the School of Visual Arts, in New York City in 1993, and has exhibited in notable contemporary institutions throughout the country over the past twenty years. William Nelson's intention is to generate conversations about values and identity by assembling unlikely pairs, Hollywood film icons, and nostalgic comic book environments. Each entity reveals a partial narrative. The nature of a comic and the personas of the movie stars, presented in the ethos of the Hollywood studio system, act as blank canvases for us to project our personal experience, principles, and standards of behavior.
Jim Rennert was born in 1958 and grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Salt Lake City, Utah. Combining the traditional medium of bronze with modern forms of flat laser-cut steel, he illustrates concepts of corporate success and the obstacles faced by the modern working person. Drawing on both his past professional experiences and those of his contemporaries, Rennert composes thought-provoking works to which viewers undeniably react and relate. Early works emphasize movement and physical metaphor, while more recent pieces show the development of a more contemplative character.
